My new ETSY shop!

quite proud!

My work was featured in the September issue of Ariadne at Home and I quite like the way it looks. The photography is by Louis Lemaire who was accompanied by stylist Linda van de Ham.

In the pictures I’m wearing a vintage summer dress which has become a work of art. It was so worn that I couldn’t wear it anymore so I sewed on pieces of paper, embroidered on it and added fabric cut-outs. It’s an ongoing process which I add too now and then. I don’t actually wear it very often, except in styled pictures;)

ongoing..

My wall vases are a project I’ve been working on for quite a while now. I’m not sure where I want to go with these but I know I want to make lots more… I’d like to see a whole large wall full them!

The vases are made from ceramic vessels that are originally used to moisture the air as they hang on the side of radiators. I’m not sure if these are used in other countries but here in the Netherlands they are well known although not often used any more. I buy them at thrift shops and fleamarkets because of all the different shapes old ones have.

Making them into the vases they are now is quite a long process.

This is what they are like to start with – after cleaning. They look quite pretty in this picture but in real life most of them aren’t!

I cover them with a layer of paper-maché.

And paint them white..

Then the fun begins… the decorating!

I use all kinds of paper, fabric, photo’s, paint, markers, stamps etc, etc.

Now you know how it’s done, you can make your own;)) Have fun!

pink

Pink is a colour I use quite often in my home and in my work. I love to see it used in interior decorating. These pictures are from my inspiration files.

silence and serenity

Ronald Ceuppens is a Belgian graphic artist that enjoys nature. He likes long walks, hiking in the mountains or simply exploring the city.  He makes the designs for his prints using sketches, drawings and objects collected during his walks.

I read about Ronald in a magazine and went straight to his website to see more. His work is fragile and beautiful and actually quite feminin.

a happiness companion

Spoonful zine is created in Australia by Thea, who’s aim is to spread happiness and positivity. She worked with lots of inspiring, creative people to make a little bite-size, finish by the time you’re getting off the train, just-make-you-smile-for-the-day publication. I loved the first issue and now the second issue is out and it’s even lovelier. Brighten your day and get your copy here or here. You won’t be sorry!

matchbox love

A while ago my friend Hilma gave me this matchbox booklet as a gift. I love the idea of a little book in a box and I’m inspired to make some of my own;))

These are made here in the Netherlands by MATCHBOOX and are usually a collaboration between writers and illustrators. Each one is put together by hand. The one above is without text and it was bought in a museum so maybe it’s from a different series. I can’t find it on the site. I ordered the one below from their web shop. It was written by Arthur Japin and illustrated by Nanne Meulendijks.

There is quite a large collection. Isn’t this a great way to exhibit them?

My most cherished matchboxes are these, my friend Maaike made them for my daughters in 1990, when Nina was born. They aren’t actually mine but I’m keeping them for the girls…

And this one, made by Nina when she was about 5 years old. A mother’s day gift for me! If I remember correctly, it’s a crab in there!

These are quite nice too! I got the one on the left from the flea market. The middel one was a gift from Lu. I can’t remember where the 3rd one came from. It must belong to one of my daughters.

My own matchbox design is this one: LITTLE BOX OF LOVE – filled with all kinds of hearts – available here.

And these ones: LITTLE BOX OF TREASURES  and LITLE BOX OF POSITIVITY- each one filled with different goodies – will be available soon…

home tour

My sister Julie and her family live in one of the loveliest homes I’ve ever seen. The house itself is beautiful and I love the way it’s furnished and decorated with lots of vintage (our showroom annex shop for alltheluckintheworld is also in her home) and personal things, making it a very cozy family home.

Here are a few detail pictures I took a while ago.

And a few of the shop…
